SKIN

The fact that our skin can be used against us, is prove why people don’t bother about what’s inside, they want to skin us, hang us by our skins on poles and parade what the darker shades are all about, that being black, brown or anything other than supreme cream is considered a danger to goverments, countries, organizations and oppressive individuals around the world- so please skin us, insult us, but don’t forget with dark skin comes dark times for those who dare to beat us down.

  1. this line, “but don’t forget with dark skin comes dark times for those who dare to beat us down,” reminds me of the last line in james baldwin’s letter (to his nephew), “my dungeon shook”. he writes, “we cannot be free until they are free.” meaning, until the whites deal with their insecurities, the blacks cannot be free. what is this thing that holds the whites captive? baldwin writes that the whites are “… in effect, still trapped in a history which they do not understand; and until they understand it, they cannot be released from it. They have had to believe for many years, and for innumerable reasons, that black men are inferior to white men.” nice post.
